Grandmother of owner was a schoolteacher in Sugar Pine, California and collected local baskets between 1910-1925. Of 23 Mono baskets in the collection, eight were made by Mono weaver Molly Cheppo/Chepo and one each by Mrs Bill Sherman, Emma Burns, "Old Noonie," Mary Brown and Maggie Walker, Rose Kinsman, Mariposa Nayo and "Old Joaquin." Mono Basketry by some of these same weavers may be found at the Autry National Center of the American West. Sold baskets will be removed from the individual listings as they sell but will remain in the two "group" photos. Very large feast bowl in mint condition. This type of basket was used to cook large amounts of acorn mush which could be eaten hot like soup or dried into cakes. The meal was placed with water in this basket and heated with hot stones.

Fine stitch, near mint or mint condition. Grandmother of owner was a schoolteacher in Sugar Pine, California and collected local baskets between 1910-1925. Of 23 Mono baskets in the collection, eight were made by Mono weaver Mollie Cheppo/Chepo and one each by Mrs Bill Sherman, Emma Burns, "Old Noonie," Mary Brown and Maggie Walker, Rose Kinsman, Mariposa Nayo and "Old Joaquin." Mono Basketry by some of these same weavers may be found at the Autry National Center of the American West.

Large, rounded formed storage basket with only some minor wear at the rim as pictured. The warps are cut by the weaver with about a 1/4" - 1/2" above the last weft; and the only wear is that a few of these exposed extended top rim warps have worn. None of the weft itself is damaged. Very rare to find in this top condition as the few that make it to market are typically glued or restored. This is all original, best condition we have seen for a Pomo bamtush storage basket.
